With a busy schedule of Super one and LGM, PFI hasn’t featured in the calendar for the last few months. However as the prestigious Kart Masters race approaches, the Fusion team headed to the best kart track in the country to compete in the July club round in preparation for the GP plate. As the heatwave continued, Freddie competed over 3 of the hottest days of the year so far.

With further development from the team it was good to have Friday and Saturday to productively test new features of the kart. The track was very fast in Friday’s practice, as lap times were close to the lap record pace. As a true professional Freddie drove with amazing consistency and stamina to achieve over 200 laps in one day. Qualifying Saturday evening went well as Freddie managed to achieve the 2nd fastest lap in a crowded track space.

Heat 1 on Sunday went to plan as Freddie broke away with his team mate who later retired. Despite the dominant win Freddie later got a penalty for taking evasive action at the start. Heat 2 went in similar fashion as the two team mates drag raced to the line for a photo finish, Freddie lost out by one hundredth of a second.

Lining up p6 for the final it didn’t take Freddie long to get to the front. After slotting into 3rd at the start Freddie caught the leaders and moved straight into the lead. Opening a gap on his own, he was able to maintain it for 90% of the race until the closing stages where strong defensive driving helped Freddie secure the victory. A special weekend for the Slater family as Alfie, Freddie’s younger brother wins his 3rd ever MSA novice race at the young age of 8 years old.
