0 Plate Buckmore – Freddie Slater

The O plate means a lot to Freddie Slater as it was his first major win of his career back in the bambino class. So his first Iame O plate at the age of 8, he was always going to try to repeat this success. However as such a young contender in the field it would be a hard challenge. With two vigorous days of testing it was clear to see that Freddie was determined and driving the technical Buckmore Park circuit with the aggressive style it required.

Posting the fastest lap time in the Sunday warm up before qualifying stood Freddie in good stead for the qualification session. In 6 minutes Freddie positioned himself perfectly to post the fastest lap. A great start to his O plate campaign achieving pole position. The first heat went well and Freddie crossed the line 3rd which gave the inside line for the prefinal. Freddie started the prefinal very well and was in the front 5 as they broke away from the pack. With strong teamwork the fusion drivers caught the lead two and battled to make it a fusion top 4 over the line; Freddie finishing 2nd overall.

The O plate final was the only race that mattered and there was only going to be one winner. From the outside starting position it was always going to be hard for Freddie to get across to the inside at the start. Getting knocked back to 5th at the start, Freddie had some work to do. In the meantime the leader got away and the best Freddie could do was battle to the front of the pack. Standing on 2nd spot on the podium is an amazing achievement for the very talented 8 year old.
