Forest Edge Club Race – Freddie Slater

Freddie headed south to race at the Forest Edge circuit near Winchester in order to prepare for the LGM meeting which will be held there in a few months.

An uncommon track for the team and drivers meant they would have to learn the circuit within the Saturday test day. Two days of glorious sun and high temperatures offered a nice relaxing club race. Alfie, Freddie’s younger brother was also competing in his first race this weekend. The first time both the Slater brothers would go head to head on the track. Saturday went well for Freddie as he learnt the track straight away and perfected the technical chicane and last sector of the circuit.

Heat 1 was a good race until Freddie found himself getting run wide on the very final corner. With the kart stuck he was not able to re-join to minimalize the places lost. Heat 2 was more successful, when Freddie was in the lead the race got red flagged and was taken back a lap, at which point Freddie was in 2nd place and this was used as the result. Heat 3 was his highlight of the day where Freddie didn’t take long to come from 7th on the grid and open the gap at the front to take the win. With a mixed bag of results Freddie started 6th for the 7 minute final.

A good start Freddie got into 3rd place and as the leaders diced for position he got into 2nd place. However, getting overtaken in a risky corner Freddie took to the grass and lost time to the two leaders. With a good defensive last lap, he managed to keep the podium position. It was also a successful weekend for Freddie’s younger brother as he completed his first MSA race and is looking forward to the next one.
