Fulbeck 14th & 15th May 2016 – Freddie Slater

The sprint series at Fulbeck in Lincolnshire is known for its high quality of driving standards and popular grids. On the back of his win last week Freddie would be challenged by more experienced drivers that race at this track most weeks. Testing on Saturday went well as Freddie’s team found the best set up for the track. Producing laps sub 53 seconds meant the pace was good.

With a mixed grid structure Freddie started 15th, 5th and 12th. With progressive starts in every race Freddie qualified on the front row for the final. With the older more experienced competitors Freddie knew he had the pace but could he cross the line first in the final? Over 9 laps the IAME Cadet race was the highlight of the day. Swapping positions continuously Freddie decided to put the big move on the leader with 2 minutes to go. Into the back chicane Freddie made a gap using the curb and in spectacular fashion took the lead, forcing the leader Harvey Riby to loose time. However on the last lap Freddie came under threat to another Freddie, the experienced Freddie Spindlow who tried everything possible to get past Slater. With meticulous defensive driving Slater kept his cool and crossed the line punching the air. Despite being two years younger that his competitors Freddie Slater had proved his future intention; Top step of the podium for the second week in a row.
