FairFx Kartmasters at PFI – Freddie Slater

The FairFX MSA Kartmasters is one of the most prestigious races on the calendar at the PFI kart circuit in Grantham. Over 4 days there was a lot of racing in order to determine the grid for the GP final race on Sunday.

A successful practice meant Freddie and the team were confident for race day. Hitting traffic during Fridays qualifying meant Freddie would qualify in 6th place; close enough to the front in the heat races. Being knocked back in both heat races at the start Freddie managed to recover to finish both in 6th place with good speed against the other competitors.

Getting caught on his own in qualifying during Saturday Freddie only managed p12 but knew he had the race pace to progress. Driving the perfect race Freddie came to 2nd on the race posting the ‘lap record’ breaking time of a 1.07.07 an amazing achievement in the highly competitive Iame Cadet class.

Heat 2 Freddie drove a strong race to finish 3rd. This gave him a second row start for the prefinal Sunday.

With another challenging start Freddie found himself in the middle of the pack.  With all the drivers gathering up at the second hairpin contact sent Freddie into a spin. This put him right to the back. In typical Freddie fashion he worked hard to get back to p13 still leaving himself with a chance in the final.

So off grid 13 he worked with his team mate over the 15 minutes to get close to the front pack. Charging his way through on the last lap Freddie got to 3rd; the best he could achieve. With such a great recovery Freddie received the prestigious Bruno Ferrari award in addition to his podium trophy!
