Larkhall LGM – Freddie Slater

Off the back of a strong Superone result Freddie was keen to gain his authority on the LGM championship. Freddie flew in from the family holiday in Mallorca to compete in the National race held at Larkhall in Scotland. Home to the great motorsport heroes such as David Coulthard and Paul Di Resta. Laying 6th in the championship Freddie needed a good amount of points to progress up the ladder.

Saturday testing was wet and as the locals explained a ‘normal day in Scotland’. With set up issues Freddie had to work hard to get the desired lap time. Comforting to the team it was dry on the race day so it wasn’t crucial to chase the optimum lap time in the rain.

Sunday morning although damp it was sunny and the track soon dried with temperatures nearly reaching 20 degrees. Heat 1 was a tough race as Fred started in the very last position on the grid. In true Freddie style this starting position didn’t mean a lot and he worked his was into the top ten crossing the line in 7th place. Definitely a good start to the day. With confidence the next heat was from 14th spot and a few set backs in the race Freddie managed 8th with the second fastest lap time. Heat 3 became the ‘Freddie Slater show’ and from p3 he got into the lead and didn’t look back. Opening up a gap on the rest of the field Freddie dominated winning his first LGM heat of the year!

Starting on p2 next to his team mate Taylor Barnard was always going to be tough as the first sequence of corners doesn’t favour the outside starting positions. Holding on strong Freddie slotted into 6th place and then set in gaining the positions back. One by one he charged through the pack and once in 2nd position started closing the gap to Barnard. Setting fasted lap of the day in his pursuit Freddie couldn’t quite get to the top spot but crossed the line in 2nd and gaining huge championship points. Consecutive podiums in both championships has certainly showed Freddie’s intentions for the rest of the season.
