Las Vegas Supernats XXII 14-18/11/18 – Freddie Slater

Returning to Las Vegas for the 22nd Skusa Supernats competition, where drivers assemble from around the world to compete in the temporary track this year created at Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino. Being Freddie’s favourite venue he was looking forward to this race and to get to grip with the new circuit.

Practice started Wednesday after a few long days of set up from the team. Jumping in another different kart, Freddie got straight to it and drove the track well straight away. Ironing out some minor engine issues early meant that Freddie ended the Wednesday in the top few fastest. The was 4 sessions in total on Thursday the last being qualifying where Freddie knew he had to get into the top few fastest. It looked like qualifying was not going to plan as Freddie found himself out the front with no chase. However after swapping to the back Freddie got a great lap which positions him 6th overall the Top British driver in qualifying. Despite the great result Freddie would receive a penalty of 10 positions because of accidentally impeding someone on the way out of the grid.

Starting 8th for each heat Freddie was still within shooting distance. Freddie worked his way to 4th in the first heat. The second heat didn’t go so well and with a few circumstances influencing the results Freddie could only manage 8th. Heat 3 was the highlight of the week, an amazing start From Freddie saw him slip into 2nd straight away. After breezing past the leader Freddie didn’t look back and opened up a 3 seconds gap to dominate the heat win, posting fastest laps along the way.

Despite the penalty in qualifying Freddie has managed to qualify 6th for the race on Super Sunday. With engine trouble in the morning warm up the day was going to be a challenge. This unfortunately overlayed into the main final where Freddie could only managed 11th with these technical issues. Despite this Freddie showed great speed at stages of the week and took away with him the Heat Win as a big bonus. Freddie’s brother Alfie competed in the Micro class where his progress was so strong in just a week he will be a forced to be reckoned with at this race next year!
