LGM at Kimbolton – Freddie Slater

After a short break from the track, Freddie headed to Kimbolton for Round 3 of the Little Green Man Championship. Going into this round leading the championship, Freddie needed a good points haul to maintain his dominance.

Saturday’s practice was difficult as the team tried different set ups to achieve the grip Freddie desired on the worn test tyres. Although he was within the top 3 fastest drivers, there was still more to come from Freddie. The testing continued into Sunday, utilising the heats to try different combinations to find the optimum set up for the final. Heat 1 Freddie started 9th and made his way up to 2nd, however after a battle in the last lap Freddie ended 5th with the fastest lap. Still pushing for more speed Freddie’s kart was changed and he climbed from 23rd to 2nd with a very strong drive. Heat 3 Freddie started p13 and quickly got up to 2nd place to push the leader away. Although an attempt to overtake he played it safe to cross the line 2nd and secure the Pole position for the final!

The final was over 15 minutes and a total of 20 laps. A tough start for Freddie saw him drop back, however he didn’t waste any time in getting back up to the lead. Tussling for position in the top 3 Freddie decided to push away Linblad and open up a gap from the rest of the field. Making it a two horse race the gap opened up to over 3 seconds. In the closing stages of the race Freddie went for the lead, and as it swapped continuously this brought 3rd place into the race. Freddie executed a great display of defensive driving which earnt him the win. A very strong win in the field of 45 Iame cadets.
