Little Green Man at PFI track – Freddie Slater

To finish the year in the Iame Cadet class Freddie travelled to PFI Grantham for the last round of the LGM Series.  The Championship was close at the top with Arvid Linblad and Freddie being joint leaders in the championship.  Saturday practice was wet and PF delivered its usual slippery conditions, making in difficult for even the top drivers to complete consistent times.  Freddie a reputable wet driver got to grips with it straight away; this showed in the first heat on Saturday as Freddie drove away to win with a 2.47 second lead starting from 19th position.  A fine display from the ten year old!

Sunday heat 2 didn’t go as well with very slippery conditions in the slicks Freddie battled and ended 5th after being forced off the track in the chicane.  Heat 3 starting from 34th position, Freddie made up a massive 25 places with the fastest lap.  With 3 very good drives in the heat this would put Freddie on the front row for the final.  Whoever won the final would win the championship.

In a breath taking finale Freddie and Arvid broke away and battled well on the last lap.  Freddie came 2nd by 0.04 seconds over the line to become Vice LGM Champion 2018 after a nail biting 15 minute final.  A great year for Freddie with multiple race wins and still the youngest amongst the top drivers in the UK.
