Little Green Man at Whilton Mill – Freddie Slater

As the points leader of the Little Green Man Championship, Freddie was looking forward to the race at his home circuit Whilton Mill in Daventry. Although the English summer has been hotter than ever, it was soon to change as Saturday after practice storms hit the Midlands to change the shape of the weekend.

Starting the day wet on Sunday was a shock to everyone, however Freddie showed his domination in wet weather driving; as he was clearly the fastest in all the heat races in the slippery conditions. Heat 1 Freddie started 2nd however got spun round at the downhill hairpin and was facing head onto the traffic. Quickly re-joining Freddie managed to carve his was through to finish 8th, posting the fastest lap. Again with a difficult start Freddie found himself on the grass in the middle sector on numerous occasions, however this didn’t stop the youngster as he charged forward from the back to finish in an amazing 2nd place! The 3rd heat was still wet and as Freddie made his way from 19th to 2nd; contact whilst overtaking sent Freddie into a dramatic spin through the first corner. All the progress he had made was lost ending 26th.

All was not lost as Freddie would start p12 for the dry final and with his confidence and speed he was able to come forward with serious pace. Overtaking his rivals Freddie showed maturity and ability in finishing 2nd in what was very difficult track conditions. Freddie now goes to the GP plate in attempt to win the big one off race at PFI International.
