PFI Winter Series – Freddie Slater

Freddie’s wet weather driving shines at the Winter Series at PFI international kart circuit. Friday Testing started well with Freddie progressing to the top in the mixed conditions. Although very cold Freddie was fastest inĀ  both the wet and dry conditions. Saturday started very wet and with accurate wet weather driving he was fastest in every session. Astonishing spectators his vigorous battles with older more experienced kids showed that Freddie’s confidence was high for the weekends race ahead. Qualifying saw drying conditions and the set up was detrimental to Freddie as the team got caught out with drying conditions. Despite this Freddie qualified 8th overall and would start 5th and 6th in the heat races Sunday.

Sunday saw an icy start and the track was defrosted with slight delay. Getting knocked back at the start Freddie stayed strong in the first heat. On the last lap a battled commenced at the front and Freddie came out in 4th position ahead of his team mates. The second heat Freddie started 5th and had a strong start to maintain position. Posting the fastest lap by 6 tenths of a second Freddie finished 4th. Very confident for the final with his pace Freddie lined up 5th. However the heavens opened and the meeting was suspended. Results were determined from the grid positions so Freddie collected the 5th place trophy out of 60 drivers, 1st place rookie and posting fasted lap of the day. A very good start at the hardest track in the country.
