Super One at Glan Y Gors Park – Freddie Slater

Round 6 of the Super One Championship was held at the GYG circuit in North Wales. Having had a difficult time at the LGM race a few weeks prior, Freddie was looking to improve this time round. With a few equipment developments, Freddie and the team were right on the pace. During practice the hard work was reflected in his speed, Freddie ended the Friday practice very much ready for qualifying.

Qualifying was difficult as the rain fell. Not gaining great track position Freddie only managed 7th but the team knew he was on course for better results in the heat races. Heat one was completed in drying conditions and Freddie fought well to finish 3rd after some great defensive driving on the last lap. Heat 2 was a little more difficult as the whole grid started the race on new slicks. A few minutes after the start the rain fell and caused chaos. Freddie after a great initial start came off at turn 2 and returned to the track mid pack. However after understanding the grip he came back through to 7th.

Starting the prefinal 4th Freddie had a great start and slotted into 2nd. After lap one Freddie got into the lead and with his team mate Will they pushed away at the front. Crossing the line a strong second was great points for Freddie. Final 2 was much wetter than the rest of the races. Freddie excelled in this condition and took the lead straight away. Aiden his teammate worked hard to catch Freddie and as the two tussled on the last lap Freddie got forced to take evasive action to the grass; still crossing the line first. Later the stewards gave Freddie a 10 second penalty for the very minor incident. However this reflected the unjust decisions made in the championship in the previous rounds. Although Freddie received the penalty to come eventually 6th he still remained happy with his speed and looks forward to his next challenge.
