Super One at Shenington – Freddie Slater

Traveling back from his family break Freddie looked forward to the challenge of the next Super One race at Shenington Kart Club near Banbury. Just 5 days previous Freddie raced hard to finish a respectable 2nd at the super prix race at the very same circuit. With a tight battle at the front of the championship Freddie was keen to make progress against his competitors.

Practice day was difficult as the team and Freddie worked together to make sure they had the speed to win. Qualifying went well for Freddie and he managed to post 5th fastest time without getting the’perfect’ track position. This gave him a good starting place for the heats to progress to the front. The first heat Freddie had a difficult first few laps but by working together with Max Hall managed to get into the front pack where Freddie fought he way to 3rd. Changing the kart for the second heat meant Freddie was able to break away at the front with the leaders. A strong battle in the closing stages meant Freddie again finished 3rd. However some wrong decisions from stewards meant Freddie would receive two lap penalties!

Freddie’s great character once again shone through as although the penalties knocked him back he never gave up. Carving his was through the field he climbed from 15th to 5th position in the prefinal over 12 minutes. Freddie wasn’t finished here. With a great start in Final 2 he got straight to the lead and with his teammate worked together to leave the rest of the field. Perfect consistent driving meant Freddie and Will opened up over 3 seconds to the nearest rival. With a close battle on the final lap Freddie and Will crossed the line together with Will just a nosecone inĀ front to take the win. With great pace and attitude Freddie was able to recover from the unfair decisions that occurred in Saturdays heat race.
