Whilton Mill Kart Club : 28th – 29th Aug 2016 – Freddie Slater

Being his home circuit Freddie was confident for a good result in his first race in the Iame Cadet class. Racing against the top club drivers Freddie would have his work cut out against the older more mature competition. With wet weather on Saturday Freddie showed competitive lap times in the changeable conditions. However the practice proved unproductive as the next day was hot dry conditions.

The heats went well and Slater worked his way from last position into the top 5. Some amazing starts lead to most of the progression to happen within the first few laps. Natural confidence meant Freddie’s aggressive style allowed him to take advantage of the rolling start structure of the races.

Qualifying 6th for the final was a massive achievement in his first race. Amongst the older more experienced drivers he was able to push away at the front with the oldest driver Elswood. The last stage of the race meant that positions were changing. Some good defensive driving kept Freddie in the front. On the final lap he was able to undercut the 3rd and 4th place driver and cross the line in 3rd. Taking a podium in his first race.
