Whilton Mill Club – Freddie Slater

Freddie increases his championship lead at the February club championship round at Whilton Mill. His very strong minded attitude enabled him to have another successful weekend against a very competitive field. After returning from a skiing holiday with the family, Freddie got straight to it in Friday testing posting fastest lap times along side his team mate Taylor Barnard. Mixed conditions Saturday was hard for the team to consistently chase the changing weather however the forecast for Sunday was dry which meant Fridays successful test day got the correct set up Freddie needed.

Starting heat 1 on 2nd position meant Freddie was in with a chance for a heat win. Freddie was in the lead until the last two corners where a team mate made contact spinning Freddie round. Prior to this Freddie had defended incredibly to keep the rest of the field behind him. In true Freddie style heat 2 started very well overtaking at least 10 karts in the first lap. He wasn’t happy with that so continued to overtake the field and ended the heat 4th. Heat 3 was from the back and started with a first corner crash however Freddie recovered to 11th. Giving him a grid position of 6th for the final.

An average start meant Freddie had to do a lot of work in the race to come through to the top positions. With extreme pace Freddie came through posting fasted sectors on his way. Attacking for 2nd against the much older more experienced drivers he got knocked back to 5th; however a very strong finishing place for the youngster. Freddie will race next weekend at the PFI club championship in Grantham.
