Whilton Mill Club Race – Freddie Slater

Being the first driver on the new Synergy Platinum X, Freddie was keen to show everyone his speed on the new chassis. With temperatures in the minus’ all weekend, the kart was run on slicks from Friday testing until Sunday race day. Having just arrived back from a family skiing holiday, Freddie continued his winter testing with a Club Race at his local circuit Whilton Mill. Friday practice was a busy day including 6 long 20 minute sessions; however this provided Freddie adequate laps to get back into the swing of things. In true Freddie style, it didn’t take long for him to set the fastest laps of the day. This continued into the Saturday practice where Freddie and number 2 seed Arvid Linblad were the ones to beat.

All the fast drivers were racing this weekend and luckily Freddie had the speed to get amazing results against the older more experienced competitors.
Starting 5th in the first heat Freddie had a strong start moving straight to 2nd place.

Working with Linblad and on his tail to the last lap Freddie made a breath-taking move around the outside of the boot corner taking the lead and crossing the line 1st. Even more impressive Freddie started the second heat 23rd and made a staggering 20 places and posting the fastest lap by 2 tenths along the way. Heat 3 Freddie was unstoppable and although starting 15th on the grid got himself to the front and crossed the line with the win.  An almost perfect set of heats from Freddie with superb starts and overtaking in the mixed grids.

The final was held under the flood lights and Freddie was due to start pole. Full of confidence Freddie’s start was amazing and he managed to open a 2 second lead in the early stages. Chasing from behind 2nd and 3rd managed to catch Freddie. Linblad slipped into the lead and Freddie made a last minute effort to mimic the same move from the first heat, however got denied the lead. Crossing the line 3rd still meant a strong result for the youngster. He demonstrated that his speed will be hard to beat the rest of the year.
