Whilton Mill Club Race – Freddie Slater

In preparation for next week’s Super One, Freddie headed to Whilton Mill for Round 4 of the Club Championship. The race structure consistent of 3 mixed grid heats over 7 minutes each, then onto a 10 minute final. Although Freddie prefers this race format, he would have to navigate his way through drivers of varied experience to put himself at the front of the final grid.

Heat 1 proved eventful for Freddie as a driver spun in front of him going through the first corner. Avoiding the collision Freddie took to the grass re-joining the track after turn 2. Not giving up Freddie joined mid pack and within a few laps caught up to the front pack. Slotting into 4th place was an amazing recovery for the youngster and posting the fastest lap on the way was an added bonus to a difficult start. Freddie started 19th for the 2nd heat and with confidence high Freddie made up 16 places to finish 3rd with another set of 3 purple sectors along the way. The last heat went in a similar fashion and with impeccable overtaking and strong pace Freddie raced well to finish 2nd coming up 19 places.

Success in the heats meant Freddie would start on pole for the final. Over 10 minutes Freddie drove a solid race and lead from start to finish. A very successful weekend in preparation for the British Championship next week. Freddie hopes for a similar result in 7 days’ time to continue his dominance of the 2018 season.
